Description
Port Ellen Distillery was established in 1825 by AK MacKay and said to be the first distillery to offer spirits in North America. It closed in 1925 and reopened in 1966, then closed again in 1983. Its reputation for good scotch persisted in the form of annual releases from Diageo since 2001 as well as figuring in several independent bottlings. (This history from The Whisky Exchange.
The Port Ellen 29yr is the eigth annual release of the likely diminishing stocks from Diageo–these scotches were laid to rest in 1971 and will presumably soon run dry
