Description
Strega liqueur–first made in 1860 and recently celebrating its 150th anniversary–is an historic Italian herbal liqueur. It is named for the Italian word for “witch,” for which Benevento is supposedly famous. It is made from “about” 70 different herbs and spices, one of them being saffron that creates the striking yellow color. Other named herbs include Ceylon cinnamon, Florentine iris, Italian Apennine juniper, and Samnite mint. After blending, it undergoes an aging in ash wood barrels to “ensure a perfect blending of the different aroma.”
